TMS: What Recovery From Depression Can Look Like
By Counseling & Treatment Center of Utah · 2024-10-15
When you’ve lived with depression for a long time, “getting better” can feel abstract. Here’s a grounded picture of what recovery with TMS often looks like — so you know what to hope for and when.
A realistic timeline
TMS is a course of care — about 18–20 minutes a session, five days a week, for roughly six to seven weeks. Many people notice small shifts in the first couple of weeks: sleeping better, a little more energy, a moment of interest returning.
By the later weeks, those small shifts often add up. In NeuroStar clinical outcomes, 83% of patients improved and 62% reached full remission.
Does it last?
For many people, the gains hold. If symptoms return down the road, maintenance sessions are an option. We’ll build a plan that fits your life and check in on your progress along the way.
Frequently asked
How soon will I feel a difference?
It varies, but many people notice early changes within two to three weeks, with the biggest gains later in the course. Everyone’s timeline is different.
